International donors pledged a 4.55-billion-U.S. dollar donation to Georgia to help the country recover from its conflict with Russia in August, EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Walder said Wednesday.

The donors "exceeded expectations" and produced 3.7 billion dollars in public money and 850 million in private contributions, Ferrero-Walder told a news conference after a donor conference.

"It is much more than we have sought," said the commissioner.
