The European Commission said Friday it will make available 300,000 euros (some 380,000 U.S. dollars) to create an alert platform at Europol for reporting offenses of child pornography on the Internet.
The platform will help cyber crime investigators in European Union (EU) member states share information more effectively and avoid the duplication of their efforts to fight child pornography.
The commission will also make available funding for those member states, which will need to adapt or set up their national reporting systems for the purpose of the Europol platform.
The decision was announced by European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot, who is responsible for freedom, security and justice affairs, in Luxembourg.
Child pornography represents more than half of all offenses committed on the Internet, said the commission, the executive body of the EU.
