French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith pledged Monday to step up cooperation in cracking down on terrorism and extremism.
During their meeting in Paris, the two ministers discussed the evolution of extremism in the modern era and the coordinated efforts to fight it, French media reported.
Both sides agreed to share experience on the study of extremism and enhance cooperation in preventing violent incidents from happening, said Smith.
Britain and France also decided to boost cooperation in fighting criminal acts and to work with other countries including the United States and Russia in fighting terrorism and extremism.
Britain recently launched new measures to ban those who want to come to Britain to stir up religious or racial hatred.
Foreign-born "preachers of hate" and other violent extremists will have to prove that they have publicly renounced their views or be refused entry to Britain, and the exclusion list will be shared with other countries, according to the rules announced last week.
