The international talks on security and stability in the Caucasus following the Russia-Georgia war in August have been "constructive," the EU official mediating the talks said Wednesday.
This is the first time since the war that all parties have met directly, Pierre Morel, the EU's special representative for the Georgia issue, told a press conference at the end of the one-day meeting.
The talks, co-chaired by the United Nations, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, were designed to tackle security and refugee issues in the wake of the war, in which Russian troops defeated Georgian forces trying to regain control of South Ossetia.
Representatives from Russia, Georgia, the United States and Georgia's two breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia attended the meeting, which was held in the form of two working groups, one dealing with regional security issues, and the other tackling the return of displaced people.
All parties agreed that the situation on the ground was not satisfactory and measures should be taken to stabilize the same, Morel said.
The parties also agreed to meet again on Dec. 17-18 in Geneva.
