A U.S. naval warship arrived Saturday in the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi for a goodwill visit, according to news reports.

The USS Barry, a guided missile destroyer, was welcomed by representatives of the local administration and public organizations, according to the Caucasus Press news agency.

During the visit, the crew of the U.S. destroyer will meet with government officials, coast guards and residents of Batumi, said the report.

The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi said it was a routine visit, adding that U.S. warships have paid visits to the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi since 2001.

The ship will head for Poti on Tuesday. It is also expected to visit ports in Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania.
