Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev was reelected on Sunday as the president of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) as the party braces for parliamentary elections next year.
The election result was announced before the delegates by the Chairman of the Elections Committee Dora Yankova.
Stanishev was the only candidate nominated to run for the highest party office. 809 out of 853 delegates have supported his nomination.
On Sunday, the second day of the congress, the Bulgarian socialists are also going to adopt their new code and the new political frame.
The new code provides for the expansion of the democratic practices inside the party through the participation of party members in the election of high ranking functionaries and the nomination of candidates for public offices.
The changes also include referendums on a local and national scale while individuals who receive an official party associate and sympathizer statute would now be able to participate directly in party matters.
The BSP political frame would become the foundation of the party's pre-election program for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The congress opened Saturday under the motto "We create better future" at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. Source: Xinhua
