Former Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has been hospitalized due to acute respiratory failure, the semi-official Cyprus News Agency reported on Sunday.
Papadopoulos, 74, was admitted Saturday night to the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
The former president's condition has improved after receiving necessary treatment, said the report.
Suffering with lower back pain, Papadopoulos was first admitted to a private clinic in Nicosia on Nov. 19
He was about to be transferred to the United States for further medical examinations. Doctors now said Papadopoulos' planned departure will be re-evaluated.
Papadopoulos, who had been elected as president in February 2003, failed in a second term bid earlier this year. He was astonishingly eliminated in the first round of elections.
