Members of the new Slovenian cabinet formally took office during brief handover ceremonies Monday, the official Slovenian Press Agency reported.
The new foreign minister, Samuel Zbogar, who succeeded Dimitrij Rupel, and the 17 other incoming cabinet ministers met with their predecessors for short ceremonies to officially launch the new government.
Like new Prime Minister Borut Pahor, who pledged that his government would focus on guiding Slovenia through the global financial crisis, the new ministers also promised to help improve the economy.
The 18-member cabinet proposed by Pahor was endorsed by the parliament last weekend. Pahor formed a ruling coalition with other three small parties after his leftist Social Democrats won 29 seats in the Sept. 21 general election, narrowly defeating former Prime Minister Janez Jansa's center-right Slovenian Democrats. The four-party coalition has 50 seats in the 90-member parliament. Source: Xinhua
