Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany outlined his government's reform plans including tax cuts for the coming few years on Wednesday.
Gyurcsany told a press conference that his minority government could carry out two or three reforms in its current term until 2010.
Among the reform plans, Gyurcsany said there was no chance temporarily for general tax cuts, but there was possibility to restructure taxation, whose main direction was to reducing labor-related taxes. Agreements need to be made by next spring about steps for the next two years, he added.
Concerning other reforms, Gyurcsany mentioned local government reforms and further reforms to higher education and the public finances. He stressed that he supported fewer parliamentary representatives as well as reforms of electoral law and party financing.
Gyurcsany said Hungary faced the most serious economic challenges of the past few decades. He called for an end to domestic political strife.
The prime minister said Tuesday's parliamentary approval of the main budget figures for next year indicated that his government would be in office until the 2010 elections. Source:Xinhua
