Ukraine and Tajikistan signed a series of documents here Thursday on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, education, culture, agriculture and tourism.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko held talks with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmon on bilateral ties.
At a joint press conference held after the talks, Yushchenko praised the development of bilateral economic relations, particularly in the energy sector.
"We have agreed that our two countries would give priority to boosting cooperation in hydropower," Yushchenko said.
Yushchenko noted that 87 percent of the hydroelectric power equipment used in Tajikistan was supplied by Ukraine, and the equipment should be modernized.
He said Ukraine is interested in further cooperation on the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant in Tajikistan.
"We are considering a deal worth several hundred million U.S. dollars," Yushchenko added.
Rakhmon noted Tajik-Ukrainian trade turnover is continuously rising in recent years and will exceed more than 100 million dollars in 2008.
"We are satisfied with the development of bilateral relations," said the Tajik leader, who arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day state visit.
