French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the prime ministers of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland will meet in Gdansk on Dec. 6 to discuss an energy and climate package, local media reported on Thursday.
The meeting will be held a week before an EU summit in Brussels on Dec. 11-12, which is expected to adopt an agreement on the package. Decisions at the summit are taken unanimously so every country has the right to use a veto.
Poland hopes that President Sarkozy will come to Gdansk with proposals owing to which the burden of the package implementation and division of profits from carbon dioxide emission sales will be more just and balanced.
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that the point was to build a climate-friendly system which would not be lethal to the economy.
Tusk will meet with Sarkozy on Saturday. Later they will meet with other prime ministers. In the afternoon Tusk and Sarkozy will hold a press conference that will be followed by another press conference with Tusk and other prime ministers.
