The Norwegian government decided Tuesday to provide 30 million kroner (about 4.3 million U.S. dollars) in immediate humanitarian relief in connection with the assaults in Gaza, according to the reports reaching here from Oslo.
The funds will be allocated to several humanitarian organizations providing emergency medical aid and assistance to the wounded and injured in Gaza, primarily channeled through the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the International Red Cross (ICRC) and the Norwegian Aid Committee (NORWAC).
Norway is following closely the situation in Gaza and is extremely concerned about the precarious humanitarian situation there, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere said in a statement.
He also called Israel to help to ensure that humanitarian relief supplies reach those in need in Gaza.
About 380 Palestinians have been killed so far and more than 1,700 others wounded in the powerful offensive which Israel declared was in retaliation for nearly daily cross-border rocket attacks by Palestinian militants. Source:Xinhua
