A majority of French people are pessimistic about their future and show less confidence in government's efforts to improve the country's economic situation, said a new opinion poll Saturday.
Up to 61 percent of the respondents said they were pessimistic about their future and their children, a six-point drop from August, according to an opinion poll conducted by IFOP for the newspaper Ouest-France.
Only 33 percent of the French people showed confidence in the government in its efforts to address unemployment, a five-point fall from August.
Environmental protection and the fight against insecurity were the only two areas where most of the French people claimed confidence, with 61 percent and 57 percent each.
The IFOP is a major polling organization in France. It polled 959 French people aged 18 and older about France's economic future by telephone on Dec.18-19.
