French President Nicolas Sarkozy condemned on Tuesday an attack on a synagogue in Toulouse in Southwest France on Monday night, saying the country "will not tolerate that international tension is turned into inter-community violence," French media reported.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the French president's office, Sarkzoy denounced the attack and considered it linked to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to the French media, unidentified attackers rammed a burning car into the gate outside a synagogue in the southwest city of Toulouse late on Monday. No one was hurt.

French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie on earlier Tuesday described the act occurred on Monday as "stupid and disgusting," and was concerned that the situation in the Middle East could rise anger in France, which is a major home to Israeli and Palestinian communities in Europe.
