French President Nicolas Sarkozy will pay his first visit to the Republic of Congo by the end of January, the presidential office announced here on Thursday.
During his visit to Brazzaville, Sarkozy and his Congolese counterpart Denis Sassou Nguesso will discuss "relations that unite Congo and France, as well as actual questions on conflicts in Africa and in the world," a press communiqué said, adding both leaders will also talk on the international financial crisis.
France is Congo's top economic and funding partner. In one of the biggest offers, Paris granted Brazzaville 180 million euros (245 million U.S. dollars) in May last year in assistance to infrastructure development in Congo, which won its independence from France in 1960. Source: Xinhua
