Ukraine will supply natural gas to Bulgaria and Moldova from its domestic reserves, President Viktor Yushchenko said Saturday.
"We will supply daily about 2 million cubic meters of gas to Bulgaria and about 1.5 million cubic meters of gas to Moldova starting from January 10," he told a press conference.
"We took this decision because of the difficult situation resulting from the cutoff in Russian gas deliveries to Europe and taking into account Ukraine's friendly relations with these countries," Yushchenko added.
He also said that all of the necessary payments will be made after the restoration of Russian gas flows to the European Union (EU).
Russia cut off all gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine on Wednesday as a dispute between Moscow and Kiev over payments escalated, resulting in a supply crisis for a number of EU countries.
At least 15 nations, mostly in central and eastern Europe, had reported a stoppage in Russian gas shipments, with Bulgaria and Moldova among the worst affected. Source: Xinhua
