Ukraine on Monday signed a new deal on monitoring Russian gas transit to Europe, removing conditions that Russia opposed, Vasily Kyrylych, spokesman for Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, said.
Kyrylych denied Ukraine signed on Sunday a protocol on the deployment of monitors led by the European Union (EU) to ensure Russian gas transit with additional provisions.
"Ukraine's declaration is solely a political document ... it is a kind of political statement that does not make any changes or additions to the text of the protocol," Kyrylych told a regular press briefing on Monday.
He stressed that the content of the new deal "is, in fact, fully consistent with the first version of the protocol."
"It cleared the way for resuming Russian gas supplies to EU countries," Kyrylych said. Source:Xinhua
