An explosion occurred at a Red Cross reception center in southwest Finland in the early hours of Monday, local media reported.

An explosive device went off around 4:00 am local time (0200 GMT) in the yard of a building housing about 20 asylum seekers. Several windows were shattered, but no one was injured.

A two-door white passenger car with a black trim was seen driving away from the scene of the explosion moments before the blast.

Police are investigating the incident.

"We have increased security at the reception center to safeguard the residents," Paivi Nikkola, deputy manager of the center said.
