Russian President Dmitry Medvedev voiced confidence that the upcoming Group of Eight (G8) summit and outreach sessions in Italy "have every chance to be successful," in an interview with Italian media published on Sunday.

Medvedev said "a whole set of documents" for the summit has been prepared, which attending leaders "will in all likelihood approve," according to a full text of the interview published on the Kremlin website.

The issues concerned include the global financial crisis, the development of the world civilization, the Millennium Development Goals, aid to the poorest countries, climate change and regional conflicts, Medvedev said.

The president also acknowledged the importance under current circumstances for world leaders to meet frequently and discuss various topics within the framework of G8 and G20.

But he warned that right now "it is too soon to relax" amid the ongoing crisis and urged real actions to restructure the international financial architecture.

"We agreed to revise many of the ground rules concerning the way these organizations are managed and their quota systems. Now we have to do it, and not simply go on saying that the international financial architecture requires reform," said the president.

"Let's really think about how the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other structures might be reformed," he added.

Noting the importance of a new Financial Stability Forum that includes all the G20 countries, he said the entire international financial agenda must be discussed at the forum.

"So I think it's time to act. The time has finally come to go to work on these standards, giving them the green light, pave the way for the experts who will prepare the appropriate international decisions," he added.

Medvedev also said that he and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama, who will visit Russia on July 6-8, are to discuss the global financial and economic crisis at their upcoming summit, and will "continue these talks in expanded format" in Italy.

The G8 summit will be held on July 8-10 in the central Italian city of L'Aquila.
