If Ireland approves the Lisbon Treaty in an October referendum, Polish President Lech Kaczynski will surely sign the document, the Polish Daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported on Monday.
The president promised that he would sign the document, European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, who met with the Polish president a few weeks ago, told the daily.
If the result of the referendum to be held in Ireland on Oct. 2is obvious, the Polish president may sign it even on the same day, the daily reported, quoting a source at the chancellery.
Irish opinion polls show support for the charter is strong with less than three weeks to go before an Oct. 2 plebiscite.
The Lisbon Treaty was designed to boost the EU's global standing through reforming its institutions. But ratification was stalled as Irish voters rejected the pact in June 2008. The treaty will take effect only after all 27 EU members ratify it.
