Serbia, Russia sign five cooperation agreements

Serbia and Russia signed Tuesday five agreements at the Serbian Government Palace, the key part of the historic visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Serbia.

An agreement on cooperation in the fields of humanitarian response to emergency situations, natural disasters and technological accidents, and removal of their consequences was signed by Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu.

Dacic and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov signed an agreement on cooperation between interior ministries of the two countries.

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and his Russian counterpart signed an agreement on cooperation in the areas of culture, science, sports and youth policy for the 2009-2011 period.

Serbian parliamentary speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and deputy speaker of the Russian Duma Alexander Babakov signed an agreement on parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement on the construction of the South Stream Gas pipeline and the formation of a joint company for Serbia's Banatski Dvor gas storage facility was signed by the Serbian public gas company and Russia's gas export monopoly Gazprom.

Medvedev, who was on a one-day visit to Serbia on Tuesday, was the first Russian president to visit Serbia. His 20-member delegation included ministers, bankers and businessmen from leading Russian companies.
