Turkey condemned Wednesday an attack on a guest-house used by United Nations staff in the Afghan capital Kabul which killed six international staff members of the world body on Wednesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

The attack aimed at security, stability and peace, as well as Afghanistan's presidential elections to be held next month, the agency quoted Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying in a statement.

"But we also believe that such terrorist attacks will not be able to stop efforts exerted by the UN and other international organizations for the development of Afghanistan," the ministry said.

Militants in a surprise move penetrated a UN guest-house in Kabul Wednesday morning, killing six international staff members of the UN and three security guards of the compound, local police said.

Turkey is deeply saddened and concerned over the attack and strongly condemns this brutal act, said the ministry, adding that Turkey will always stand by the UN community.

Elections in Afghanistan will be important to the country's efforts to restore stability and fight terrorism, it said.
