France, Russia settle cooperation on various sectors

France and Russia settled wide-scope cooperation in fields of economy, politics, technology and culture in a meeting on Friday, with around 25 pacts signed between representatives from both sides.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin presented the 14th session of France-Russia intergovernment seminar in Rambouillet Chateau in southwest suburb of Paris.
The two sides held talks about the world economic situation, the climate change, bilateral ties, relations of Europe and Russia and Iran nuclear issue, Fillon said in the press conference.
France has become the most important investor in Russia, exceeding the United State, which marks the "substantial breakthrough" and "high-quality bounding" in mutual cooperation, Fillon underlined.
The two premiers also witnessed the signing of a series of agreements concerning nuclear energy, environment protection, aviation technology, education and culture.
With these deals, French energy giant EDF will gain 10 percent share of the South Stream pipeline project undertaken by Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom. French carmaker Renault will join the reformation of Russia's ailing auto manufacturing giant Avtovaz with technology and material aiding worth 240 million euros (359 million U.S. dollars).
Also in the conference, the two leaders confirmed that Russia's purchase of one French Mistral amphibious assault ship was under negotiation. If settled, this agreement would be a record sale of sophisticated weapons from NATO to Russia.
Both delegations of the two countries contained high-profile officials and business magnates.
Putin was expected to meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy during the two days visit in France, but Sarkozy flew to South America on Putin's arrival on Thursday. They talked about bilateral ties through telephone on Thursday night.
