Sales of new cars in Russia plummeted 37 percent in January following a sharp decline last year, a leading business group said on Monday.
Car sales dropped by 37 percent, or by 43,938 units, from the same period last year, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said.
Car sales in Russia plunged 49 percent in 2009 from the previous year's record high to 1.46 million vehicles, the lowest level in the past four years, according to the AEB.
The government will launch a "cash-for-clunkers" program in March in a bid to spur sales.
