The Spanish Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday that a fishing boat captained by a Spaniard has been captured by pirates in the Indian Ocean.

The boat 'Xakoba', sails under the Kenyan flag and is specialized in fishing for swordfish, sharks and merlin, as opposed to the Spanish fleet in the Indian Ocean which specializes in tuna fishing.

The ship, which also has a Polish engineer and an African crew, was sailing off the coast of Somalia when it was taken.

The EU operation against the pirates that have been a constant threat to the fishing fleet, 'Operation Atalanta' informs that the ship is currently in a position of the Kenyan coast.

Last week saw two separate attacks on Spanish tuna boats, which were thwarted with the arrest of 11 suspected pirates.
