Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said Wednesday that he was optimistic over the release of Spanish hostage Alicia Gamez.
Gamez and two companions who work for a Catalan charity, Barcelona Accio Solidaria, were kidnapped by a group connecting with al-Qaida on Nov. 29 last year in the African nation of Mauritania.
It is said that Gamez is going to be released in Burkina Faso along with an Italian hostage Filomere Kabouree.
When asked about Gamez's possible release when arriving at the Spanish Congress in Madrid, Zapatero showed his optimism.
"Things are moving in the right direction," he said, adding that he hoped for Gamez's release soon.
However, Vice President Maria Teresa de la Vega, expressed her cautiousness.
"We are hopeful, but we have to be responsible and prudent," she said, although de la Vega has traveled to Barcelona Wednesday to meet the families of all of the hostages.
