Greek drivers are seen queuing up to two kilometers at some petrol stations, hoping to fill up their vehicles.

Truckers are also seen refusing to transport basic consumer goods, such as milk, to Greek islands which have been affected more severely.

Threatening to continue "until the end", they argue that the reform represents a major blow to them, as they will lose almost two thirds of the value of the licenses they bought for up to 300,000 euros (390,000 U.S. dollars).

On the other hand, Greek government officials appear determined to proceed with the liberalization of the sector which, local experts says, will bring millions of euros in revenues every year to the debt-ridden national economy.

Furthermore, the reform is one of the main suggestions made by European Union and International Monetary Fund auditors who are currently in Athens for deliberations with the government on policies that will bail Greece out of the crisis, Greek officials note.
