An eight-storey residential building collapsed in Russia's St. Petersburg, and there might be people trapped under the rubbles, the Emergency Situations Ministry's office in St. Petersburg told the Interfax news agency on Wednesday.
"The horizontal partitions between the first and the eighth floors collapsed on Ligovsky Prospekt, which according to preliminary reports is being renovated," a source said.
The tenants of the building had moved out months ago, but the first floor was used as shops and offices. Thus it was possible that people might have been trapped under rubble, the source said.
