Two days of talks in Rome on Iran's nuclear program produced new and constructive ideas, an Iranian negotiator said on Wednesday.
"New and constructive ideas were advanced that could lead to further progress," Ali Larijani told a press conference after talks with Italian Premier Romano Prodi and the European Union's foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
Prodi urged Iran to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) so that its head, Mohamed ElBaradei can present a positive report to the United Nations next month.
Prodi, whose country is one of Iran's main trading partners, said talks with Larijani and his recent replacement Said Jalili had been "extremely important and useful" for peace in the region.
Larijani said Prodi had "a profound knowledge of international and regional problems and every time we have spoken to him we have benefited from his views."
He stressed that IAEA inspectors were at work in Iran, "carrying forward their task and negotiations."
Solana praised Italy's role in the talks, calling it "a very important country, also because of its links with the Middle East." Source:Xinhua
