Syria denied on Wednesday that it was plotting to assassinate Lebanese leadership, terming it as "false accusation," the official SANA news agency reported.
A Syrian information official made the denial on condition of anonymity to respond to an accusation made Tuesday by head of Lebanon's pro-government Al-Mustaqbal (Future) party Saad Hariri that there was a Syrian plot to kill him and Prime Minister Fouad Seniora.
The official also urged Hariri to present the evidences which he alleged to have possessed regarding the "fabrications," heckling Hariri why "not presented this information in front of Arab and international public opinion."
On Tuesday, Saad Hariri, a billionaire and one of Lebanon's leading anti-Syrian political figures, alleged in Cairo that there were Syrian assassination plots against the Lebanese leadership, adding that Lebanese security agencies were investigating the alleged plot.
Saad's father, Rafik Hariri was assassinated in a massive car bombing on Feb. 14, 2005, which many blamed on Syria, a former power-broker in Lebanon.
