The Chinese government gave Approved Destination Status (ADS) to Papua New Guinea here on Thursday, which allows Chinese travel agencies to organize group travelers to visit the country.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Shao Qiwei, chairman of China National Tourism Administration and Charles Adel, minister of Culture and Tourism of Papua New Guinea on Chinese organized group travelers to the south Pacific nation.
Further details on how to apply for visas will be discussed.
So far, the Chinese government has given the status to 132 nations and regions, of which 91 have already started receiving Chinese tourists.
China is Asia's biggest tourism source nation, with more than 34 million Chinese visitors traveling out of the country last year.
Papua New Guinea lies in the southwest Pacific Ocean, covering over 600 islands.
