A Palestinian court in the West Bank town of Jericho convicted on Sunday six Palestinian officers for leaving their security posts in the Gaza Strip during June's Fatah-Hamas infighting, Palestinian security sources said.
The sources said the Palestinian court sentenced the six officers, who were accused for fleeing their security locations during the fight with Hamas, to three years in prison.
It was the first time since June that a Palestinian court in the Fatah-ruled West Bank held such kind of trial.
In June, Hamas militants scored an overwhelming victory over Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah security forces and seized control of the Gaza Strip.
In and after the bloody infighting, hundreds of Palestinian officials in Abbas' Fatah movement and security forces fled from Gaza to Egypt or the West Bank city Ramallah.
