Afghan and the U.S.-led Coalition forces have conducted an operation in central Afghan province of Ghazni to disrupt Taliban recruiting networks in the area, detaining six people and killing two others, said a Coalition statement released on Monday.
The combined forces Sunday searched several compounds in the Deh Yak District where intelligence reports indicated militant recruiting networks were operating, the statement said.
Three individuals suspected to be linked with militant recruiting facilitators were detained in one of the compounds, it said.
While searching on another set of compounds, the combined forces were fired upon from one of the buildings, it said, and they returned fire, killing two militants and wounding one other.
The combined forces also pursued and subsequently detained two individuals with possible ties to militant recruiting facilitators, it added.
"Afghan and Coalition forces made significant strides to disrupt militant operations aimed at recruiting young Afghan males into an extremist organization of false promises, suicide bombers and terrorism," said Maj. Chris Belcher, a Coalition spokesman.
Afghan and Coalition forces also recovered several weapons that were removed to prevent further use, the statement said.
Currently some 55,000 international troops are fighting militants and securing peace in Afghanistan.
