Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah movement's armed wing, claimed responsibility on Tuesday for killing a Jewish settler outside the northern West Bank town of Qalqilia.

The group said in a leaflet that its militants watched the settler car and "as soon as the target got closed, our militants opened fire and directly hit the settler."

The "Voice of Israel" radio in Arabic language confirmed that a29-year-old settler was shot dead after anonymous militants opened fire from a short distance at his car, which drove near the outskirts of Qalqilia town.

Following the attack, which occurred over night, an Israeli army force blocked the main road that leads to the town and raided four villages east and north of Qalqilia, said Palestinian witnesses.

The witnesses said three were detained after their homes were stormed by the Israeli army forces, adding they were taken for questioning.
