Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are likely to meet this week, Palestinian Information Minister Riyadh al-Maliki said on Tuesday.
Al-Maliki said their meeting comes as a result of U.S.-hosted International Conference on Middle East peace held in Annapolis, Maryland last month during which Abbas and Olmert agreed to hold meetings regularly.
He didn't reveal the date and venue of the meeting but underlined that "it is important to have the meeting held," because negotiators from both sides achieved no progress in the post-Annapolis talks due to Israel's refusal to freeze settlement activities in the West Bank.
"We can not go ahead in any negotiation process as long as Israel violates the principles of the negotiations," al-Maliki said.
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) was frustrated from an Israeli decision to expand a disputed settlement in east Jerusalem though the peace plans, which act as ground for the talks, demand suspension of settlements.
