Yasser Abed Rabbo, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said on Sunday he will visit Washington to discuss several issues ahead of next month's visit by U.S. President George W. Bush to the Middle East.
He told Voice of Palestine radio that the issues were discussed earlier in the U.S.-hosted peace conference in Annapolis in late November and the subsequent meeting in Paris to financially support the Palestinian Authority (PA).
"Some issues involve politics such as the peace negotiations and the settlements in addition to other things related to the funding of the PA," Abed Rabbo said. "We must review and follow up these issues before U.S. President Bush comes here."
The ongoing expansions of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank will be on the top of the agenda when Bush visits Israel and the Palestinian territories, according to Abed Rabbo.
The Palestinians were frustrated by an Israel tender to expand a disputed settlement in east Jerusalem.
Israel's recent tenders for the construction of some 300 new homes in Har Homa and some 200 new units in Ma'aleh Adumim have prompted severe international criticism of Israel and soured the atmosphere at the first two sessions of final status talks with the Palestinians.
