Iraqi police detained an al-Qaida network leader of two Iraqi northern provinces in Mosul city,a police source from Salahudin province said on Wednesday.
"A joint police force from the two provinces of Salahudin and Nineveh on Tuesday captured Adnan Khalil Faraj, the leader of the al-Qaida organization in both the provinces, in a restaurant in Mosul city, capital of Nineveh province," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
"The significant detainee will be transformed during the day to the city of Tikrit, the capital of Salahudin province, to be interrogated for committing crimes of killing, kidnapping, and displacing residents in Salahudin province," the source said.
Recently, U.S. and Iraqi security forces captured or killed many al-Qaida leaders for indiscriminate killings and disturbing stability across the country.
Violence in Iraq's northern provinces has been increased after insurgent groups, including al-Qaida, fled their strongholds in the central and western Iraq where the U.S. and Iraqi security forces conducted major offensives. Source:Xinhua
