Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Wednesday that Israel would watch closely to see whether the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) fulfills its promise to indict two suspects in the killing of two Israelis on Friday.
Barak was quoted by Israeli daily Ha'aretz as saying that "these people need to rot in jail until their last days," adding that Israel would see if the PNA is opening a revolving door for them and if so, the Israeli defense establishment would know how to get them.
On Friday, two off-duty Israeli soldiers were killed during a drive-by shooting attack near the West Bank city of Hebron. The killers turned themselves into the PNA's General Intelligence Service immediately after the attack.
Israeli media reported on Tuesday that the perpetrators of the attack were both employed by the PNA.
The incident has raised questions in Israel over the effectiveness of a pledged crackdown against militants by PNA security forces.
Following the ambush, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Sunday that Israel would take no steps toward peace if the PNA does not fulfill its obligations of fighting "terror."
