Israeli soldiers stationed near the borders between northern Gaza Strip and Israel shot dead a Palestinian who approached the fence of the borders, Palestinian security sources said.

They said that they were informed of the shooting by Israeli army which asked them to send an ambulance to the scene to withdraw the body.

However, they said the identity of the slain Palestinian man was not immediately known.

Earlier Wednesday, six Palestinian militants, members of Islamic Hamas movement's armed wing and the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), were killed in a series of Israeli ground and airstrikes east of Gaza City.

Meanwhile, armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility on Wednesday for attacking an Israeli army force by handmade missiles near the borders between Gaza Strip and Israel.

Spokesman of the deposed government of Hamas in Gaza Taher al-Nunu condemned the Israeli killing of six Palestinians, saying "the killing is a proof that the occupation is not interested in any calm."

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah condemned the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, saying "what happened was a massacre aims at escalating more violence in the region."
