Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday ahead of U.S. President George W. Bush's Mideast tour, a Ramallah-based al-Ayyam daily reported Monday.
Ahead of the Abbas-Olmert summit, another meeting is expected to be held later on Monday between Israeli and Palestinian negotiation teams, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat was quoted as saying.
The meetings precede a visit by U.S. President Bush to the region to move forward the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks which resumed in December after years of suspension.
During the meetings between the negotiators of the two sides, the Israeli military escalation and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, which are considered obstacles before the progress of the talks, will be put for discussions, said Erekat.
According to him, Abbas is going to ask Olmert to commit not to build new settlements or confiscate spaces from West Bank lands.
The PNA will protest against the Israeli military operation in Nablus city which thwarted an earlier deal commissioning the city's control to the PNA.
Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported earlier that the core outstanding issues between the two sides will be discussed through a special joint committee that will start its work after Bush ends his visit to the Middle East. Source:Xinhua
