Acting Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said on Saturday that Gaza rocket attacks into Israel brought disasters for the residents of the coastal enclave.

"The Gaza rocket attacks bring nothing except more disasters," Fayyad told reporters during a tour in West Bank city of Salfeet.

Israel began launching attacks, mostly aerial, into the Gaza Strip on Tuesday in response to Hamas' resumption of rocket attacks on southern Israeli communities.

So far, at least 37 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli operations.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has always described the makeshift rockets, which militant groups fire from Gaza, as useless and playful.

Hamas routed pro-Abbas security services and took control of Gaza Strip last June. It is believed that Hamas escalated the rocket attacks to force Israel into a ceasefire and reopen Gaza crossings.

Meanwhile, Fayyad said the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks which resumed last month, will not succeed without intervention from the international community to provide suitable atmosphere.

He envisions that there should be no roadblocks and checkpoints in the future Palestinian statehood.
