Arab and European foreign ministers were scheduled to meet in Malta on Monday to discuss means of improving the situation in the Palestinian territories and pushing forward the Middle East peace process, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Egypt's efforts to help the Palestinians and the coordination between Arab and European nations to boost the Middle East peace process will be discussed at the meeting, which will be attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossam Zaki said.

The meeting will also discuss ways of boosting Arab-EU cooperation along with a host of issues of mutual concern, such as climate change, energy and the dialogue among civilizations and cultures, according to Zaki.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner are also expected to attend the two-day Arab-EU foreign ministers' meeting initiated by Malta, Zaki added.
