Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday discussed via the phone the latest developments of the Palestinian territories and the progress of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.

Receiving a phone call from Abbas, President Mubarak was briefed on the outcome of Abbas' talks on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on the situation in the Palestinian territories, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.

The two presidents also tackled on final-status issues in the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations during the phone conversation.

Olmert and Abbas met in Jerusalem on Tuesday evening, during which the two agreed to accelerate peace talks but avoided to touch the sensitive issue of Jerusalem.

According to Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, Abbas reiterated to Olmert in their meeting that the final status issues can't be divided.

The meeting between Abbas and Olmert is the fifth of its kind since the U.S.-brokered Annapolis peace conference was held in late November last year.
