German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek- Zeul is visiting Israel and Palestinian territories in a move to strengthen Germany's ties with the region, local media reported Monday.
The visit, which began on Monday, was intended to "underline the engagement of the German government in stabilizing the political and economic situation in the Palestinian territories," Wieczorek-Zeul's spokesman said in Berlin.
The minister will hold talks with Israeli President Shimon Perez and Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Information Riyad al-Malki during his four-day trip that began Monday, German news agency DPA reported.
His visit is seen as a follow-up to the donor conference held in December in Paris where millions of dollars were pledged for reconstruction in the region.
