Lebanese gov't denies U.S. warships presence |

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora on Friday denied the presence of U.S. warships in the Lebanese territorial water.
"Lebanon did not invite any foreign warships, there are only Lebanese navy and UNIFIL (the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon) maritime forces patrolling the Lebanese coast," Seniora made the remarks after a meeting with Arab ambassadors at the government headquarters in Beirut.
He also warned against what he called policies serving "foreign ambitions."
U.S. Pentagon officials said Thursday that the U.S. navy has moved guided-missile destroyer USS cole and other warships to the eastern Mediterranean Sea off Lebanon, CNN TV reported.
A Bush administration official told the TV that the decision to move ships to the region was a message to neighboring Syria that "the U.S. is concerned about the situation in Lebanon, and we want to see the situation resolved."
Syria is accused of obstructing the presidential elections in Lebanon through its opposition allies. Some Arab countries threatened to boycott the upcoming Arab summit in Damascus in late March if Syria does not facilitate the election of Army commander Gen. Michel Suleiman as president.
