Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday renewed his willingness to achieve ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian armed groups in Gaza.
"President Abbas determines to avoid the Palestinian people from facing more suffering and loosing more victims and so he works to bring the two sides into calmness," Palestinian official news agency, Wafa, reported.
According to Wafa, the calmness should also secure the reopening of Gaza Strip crossing points and granting the freedom of movement for the residents.
Abbas calls on the Israeli government to deal with his ceasefire initiative. His call comes after Israel killed 110 Palestinians in military operations started on Wednesday in Gaza Strip.
Israel says the offensive was meant at lessening Palestinian rocket attacks into its territories.
Meanwhile, Abbas asked Premier Salam Fayyad to allocate five million dollars to be paid in compensation for the Gaza Strip people whose houses were demolished in the Israeli offensive. Source:Xinhua
