The military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement on Thursday claimed responsibility for detonating an Israeli army jeep on the eastern border of Gaza Strip in which the Israeli sources said a soldier was killed.

A number of soldiers were also wounded in the explosion which took place near Kissufim crossing to the east of southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis.

In a statement sent to the press, Saraya al-Quds, the radical movement's armed wing, said they were standing behind the operation and they "dedicate the bombing to the soul of the martyrYousef al-Simiri" who was killed by Israeli special forces early Wednesday in the nearby al-Garara village.

Witnesses said that a column of black smoke rose from the area following the sound of a blast and that Israeli Apache helicopters were sent to the place, firing heavy machine-gun shots from time to time.

On Saturday, the Israeli army invaded the eastern territories of northern Gaza Strip and killed dozens of Palestinians in the worst ever two-day incursion.
