Visiting U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney met Wednesday evening with Oman's Sultan Qabus bin Said in the Omani capital of Muscat, the official Oman News Agency(ONA) reported.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the existing cooperation between Oman and the United States "in the light of close relations between the two countries," the report said.
But the ONA did not give any further details about the meeting.
Earlier media reports said that the controversial Iranian nuclear issue was expected to be the focus of the meeting between Cheney and Sultan Qabus.
The United States has access to four air bases in Oman, one of which lies some 50 miles from Iran.
Oman shares with Iran the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic marine passage for some 30 percent of the world's oil supply.
Cheney arrived in Muscat on Tuesday after winding up a two-day surprise visit to Iraq, where he described the increasingly unpopular U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a "successful endeavor."
Cheney began a regional tour in the Mideast on Monday, which will also take him to Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Turkey.
