Islamic Hamas movement on Friday called on Arab leaders, who will meet in the 20th Arab summit in Damascus on Saturday and Sunday, to adopt a Yemeni-sponsored agreement of reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah movement.

"We call on the Arab summit to cradle Sanaa declaration and to impose it on the other Palestinian factions to start a national Palestinian dialogue immediately," said Khalil al-Hayya, a Hamas lawmaker, during a Hamas rally held Friday in Gaza city.

In June last year, Hamas fought pro-Fatah security forces loyalto President Mahmoud Abbas, taking over the Gaza Strip and cutting political partnership between the two movements.

Sanaa declaration signed this month by Hamas and Fatah representatives within the framework of Yemeni initiative, is the first practical initiative paving the way for the resumption of Hamas-Fatah talks.

Meanwhile, Hamas staged demonstrations on Friday in Gaza city, demanding the Arab summit of Damascus to withdraw an Arab initiative that aims at making peace with Israel.

"The (Israeli) occupation doesn't recognize the Arab initiative and continues its aggression without paying any consideration to it," al-Hayya added during the rally.

He also called on the Arab leaders to withdraw their ambassadors to Israel and close the Arab representatives in Tel Aviv.

The Arab peace initiative was adopted in Beirut summit in 2002.It calls for an Israeli withdrawal from the territories that were occupied in the 1967 war in exchange for a complete normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states.
