A senior Palestinian official warned on Saturday that the Gaza Strip will sink into full blackout within days if Israel doesn't allow fuel into the blocked enclave.
Jamal al-Khodari, chief of the Popular Committee against Blockade, told a news conference held in Gaza that "Gaza Strip will sink into full darkness, where large and essential sectors are expected to stop," due to fuel shortage.
The main Gaza power plant will stop electricity supplies to the population "in case fuel is not allowed into Gaza within days," al-Khodari said.
Food, energy and other daily necessities continue to be in short supply in the Gaza Strip on which severe restrictions have been imposed since Hamas' takeover in June 2007.
Israel didn't allow fuel into the Gaza Strip after three militant groups carried out an armed attack on Nahal Ozz Crossing east of Gaza City on Wednesday, where two Israelis were killed.
Following Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip, Israel imposed a strict blockade on the enclave and considered it a hostile entity.
Al-Khodari called on Arab countries and the international community to exert efforts and urge Israel to lift the blockade, open all crossings and allow fuel into the Gaza Strip.
